The Happy Tree Friends Writer's Questions and Answers Topic

Since the show writers Kenn Navarro, Ken Pontac and Warren Graff are active on this site, they'll be here to answer your questions. Warren answers questions in this discussion and Kenn (and other mods at this site) answers questions on his comment wall.

The Rules: Be patient, the writers of HTF may take a while to answer your questions because they're busy people. Don't answer any questions yourself and keep discussions about the questions and/or answers to a minimum. Keep in mind that the writers can not take ideas from fans due to legal reasons.

Don't ask questions about merchandise or release dates for episodes, it's out of Warren's, Kenn's and Ken's jurisdiction. If you have questions about the site, ask Cliff Malloy or Z.

Also keep in mind that these guys are writers (and voice ators, and one animator). It is not thier job to keep track of release dates for episodes, merchandise or updates to things around whichever website so more often than not, they don't. Don't ask about a second season either. Just hope. I'm sure they would tell us as soon as they found out.

I figure I should say that while this is being remade.

I'll ask this here and see what happens.

Question
The title of, "Peas in a Pod," says that it features Giggles yet she is nowhere in the episode. In her place was Petunia. Do you know what might have happened there and which one was in the original script?

I don't remember. I think it was just a mistake in the title cards, which has happened before. There isn't a whole lot of deleted Giggles if that's what you're wondering.

Warren's right. We actually scripted and boarded the show with Giggles instead of Petunia. At the last minute during the layout phase I made the decision to swap out Giggles with Petunia but didn't remember to change the opening card. Doh!

So, yes, that one is my bad. Although, I'm not opposed to spreading rumors of a deleted scene involving Giggles. This is the internet, after all!

Let's see how long it takes to show up on snopes.com :-)

I have a question for Kenn. The animation in the "Break" shorts, "Chore Loser" and "Seize the Day" looked different than the animation style today. It kind of looks like a 2005 episode. Care to share why the animation was done a little differently?

Thanks guys. Alright, Here's a question courtesy of Yoshi-Lord:
What was the deal with the Asbestos I can do episode? Lumpy knitting an antler-warmer for himself, about 10-15 seconds long.

I have an answer for you, The Living HTF (if that is your real name)! Warren said that they were originally done in live action then colored in but the truth is that those Breaks ("Chore Loser" and "Seize The Day" were done for the G4 channel AGES ago but was never aired. They were animated by John Cimino who has gone to bigger and better Spore-tastic adventures but we continue to sing his song and worship the golden lock of hair he left behind... have I shared too much?

Anyway, it's high time to throw those shorts out of the vault and let them fend for themselves. Besides, they've been eating up all the cheese around here and refuse to kick in for rent!

We came up with that title, "Asbestos I Can Do," and I immediately swooned and fell in love! We tried writing up an episode to be worthy of that mantle but sadly none ever materialized. When we were doing the DVD we thought we'd throw in a fun, little short that parodied what serious TV shows did during their opening with "Previously on..." then the teaser at the end with "Next Week on..." My idea was that the actual intro and outro was much longer and waaay more exciting than the actual show, thus 10-15 seconds of Lumpy knitting. It was just a silly thing for giggles.

wow....I would never have guessed. The break things make a little more sense now since they were originally for G4

Anyway I posted this on the other forums but this one is much less crowded...our little secret for now. Anyway I'm curious...Have you guys ever had to throw away an idea because you didn't have enough characters? For example, lets say you had a hilarious idea for a scene to add to Blind Date, but it involved a girl character, so you couldn't use it (except Flaky but that would have gotten rid of the argument).

None that I'm aware of. We've got 20 characters to work with, so I would hope that we can figure out something.

Here's a question. How do you think the show would be different today if Lumpy was never created?
